Headline:  Interns Lawsuit

Date:  Searched web date 9/01/2012

I am not 100% sure that this is a recent topic because it is someone who worked in year 2011, but what I am 100% sure that it concerns us all, as designers. I was intrigued last class by the fact that big companies have been taking advantage of interns, making them work over hours while they are not getting any profit from it. In this webpage there are actually three different cases of interns with lawsuit against their employer. One of this lawsuits and the one that has taken more into the media is against Hearst Corporation owners or Harper’s Bazaar magazine. It is on behalf of one of their interns and they state that she worked “40 hours per week, and sometimes as many as 55 hours per week, without compensation as an intern on the staff of Harper’s Bazaar in 2011”. In the webpage you can actually see the .pdf of the actual complaint in February 2012. My belief is that it had to start somewhere interns are taking action into their hands.
