Keith Levasseur ran Saturday’s Baltimore Marathon in 2:46:58. He was the one who set world record in marathon in flip flops. He will be recorded in Guinness Book for a marathon in flip flops. This makes me wonder, what is the point for having sneakers if flip flops can achieve better than runners? Is it Levasseur’s ability or flip flops? Lavasseur did comment that the ball of his feet were ‘quite sore’ after running the marathon and that he would never do it again. The designers and scientists collaborate to create more healthier and comfortable shoes for the feet and the spine but what is the point for that if flip flops can be worn during one of the biggest sporting events, marathon? Will runners be replaced by them? Can runners be ever replaced by other type of footwear for sports?
